Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2003-08-14 Summary: You little Birch!!! ... About eight months ago I purchased the powermatic PM-15 from a local tool supply store. I have loved using this fine machine for planing and moulding, and it has preformed flawlessly, that is until I got my first paying customer. A gentleman that lives near me brought me a load of roughsawn birch to plane down and run 50' of crown and 50' of panel moulding for him. While most of it (80 percent) came out nice, most of the pieces had some tearout, and 1 piece of crown was completly trashed. What a nightmare! I was suprised ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2003-02-18 Summary: A Lot of Machine For the Money ... When this planer arrived at my shop I couldn't wait to get it out of the crate and plugged in. I was pleasantly surprised to see how heavy the machine was built, its beefy stature screamed, throw anything at me I can plane it, and after some adjusting it did. I ran pine and white oak threw it, and it produced a wonderful finish on both. The one problem I have had is trying to plane exceptionally wide boards. For some reason if I plane a board 10" wide or better it machine has some trouble feeding the board threw. I ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2003-12-30 Summary: Powerful but particular ... The machine is absolutely heavy duty. Although, there are a few things that I have found issue with: 1) machine doesn't work well with wide poplar boards. I have a heavy duty dust collection system connected to it but the poplar creates long strands from the wide boards. These strands clog up the exhaust chute causing the shavings to back up onto the outfeed roller and stop the boards from continuing through the planer part way through a feed. Basically have to lower the table and pull the board out to clean the strands ...more

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2004-05-17 Summary: Value Substitute for Dewalt 680 ... I used my friends Dewalt 680 planer for a couple of jobs and liked its small size/weight and features. I didn't like its $150 price. So I went looking for and alternative and found this Black and Decker at Sears for $69.99 w/case and extra blades. It looks and performs like the Dewalt but at half the price and w/case, extra blades and wrench(uses dewalt blades), edge guide, dust bag, and vacumn attachment accessories. The only differences I noticed is the rear shoe is a steel plate instead of cast. The front plate ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-02-16 Summary: Wish I had this before... ... Before I purchased this power planer I used a hand planer to shave down high spot on 2x4 before installing drywall, it cost me about $35 for the hand planer, and it gets difficult when you hit a knot. Then I found this planer for about $65 and it gets the job done in couple seconds compares to hours, it ran through the knot like it's not even there! Not only it's quick, the finish is impressively smooth too. For those (like me) thinking about getting a hand planer just for couple small jobs, the extra $30 is definitely ...more
