Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-09-24 Summary: Long term performer ... I have been working with this saw for seven years. It works better than any other 12" compound miter that I have used. For baseboard, casing and crown it is a production workhorse. Simple to use, light and easy to set up. Cuts great, strong motor, and accurate. Its great for framing, remodeling, decks, siding and trim. If you have to cut a lot of shelving for closets and cabinets, or build a lot of stairs, then a slider is a better choice. For everyone else this is the saw to get. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-03-03 Summary: awesome saw ... I needed a miter saw for a number of home projects. This was going to be my first time using a miter saw, so I did some research. I was looking for a saw under $300 but that would do a nice job and that I could eventually use for crown molding as well. This saw got some very good reviews, but the one that clinched it for me was that someone said the saw blade that came with the saw made very clean cuts. Reviewers of other similar priced saws said they needed to replace the blade in order to get decent cuts (another ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-09-03 Summary: Actually need to remove a couple of stars here... ... ******UPDATE****** Of course it had to happen. I wrote the original review below based on the Makita saw I bought a number of years ago and a second one that I purchased for my workplace. I recently took another job and, because of my experience with those saws, I purchased another for the new shop. Unfortunately, the saw arrived out of alignment. That does happen sometimes but not often with an item at this price point. We set about trying to align it properly but no matter how much we tried to adjust the fence, the ...more

[2] ... Product Review | Why buy a compound miter saw? While a standard miter swings left or right at varying angles of the centerline, a compound miter also swings on a bevel, allowing you to cut a bevel and an angle simultaneously. This is invaluable if you are working on projects that require compound cuts, such as crown molding. As compound miters go, it's hard to do better than the Makita. At just over 36 pounds, this is among the lightest of the 12-inch miters, yet it doesn't feel flimsy at all. The swing arm...more

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-06-19 Summary: Ho Hum, just another solid product from Makita! ... Let me make this short: this is all the miter saw 95% of us need. You can buy bigger, fancier more powerful saws with advanced features but this is all you really need unless you're a full time Pro who does trim and molding etc. all day long. It has a liitle "kick" at start up but when you make the cut it is so quick and so clean you forget it. In fact....I LIKE that little start up boost! This is a well made, well thought out tool and looks like it will last a long time. If its like my other Makita tools I'm sure ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-08-16 Summary: One of the best small miter saws. ... A few years ago I worked in the cabinet shop of a custom motor-coach factory. We had about 12 of these 10" Makita Saws as well as a few larger sliding saws of various brands. We used them all day long to cut moldings and secondary wood to assemble cabinets, and never had a lick of trouble. Out on the main line, they even used the same saw with a carbide blade to cut aluminum extrusions for coach bodies. When they finally started wearing out (after about 5 years of 10 hour work shifts) management replaced them with ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Review | A favorite on job sites, Makita's 10-inch compound miter saw has a highly dedicated following. Even though it's extremely portable (at 24.2 pounds), Makita's saw also boasts a super sturdy dual-post pivoting arm. A pivot fence adjusts for supporting large stock and flips back for bevel cuts. The saw bevels left up to 45 degrees and miters 45 degrees left and up to 52 degrees right. There's no lack of power here, either: a 15 amp motor spins the blade, plus there's an electric brake that saves you time...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-03-28 Summary: Great Saw ... I ordered the LS1214L from Grizzly to replace a DeWalt DW716 that I returned and it is super nice. I was hesitant about mail-ordering it b/c of a few reviews about damage during shipping so I checked everything out before signing for the delivery and I'm glad I did. Although there was no damage, Makita does not take any extra care when boxing the unit. In fairness, I don't recall that DeWalt did either (though I purchased it from Home Depot), but I think it's something they both should reconsider now that a lot of ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-02-23 Summary: A great addition to my shop ... This is an awsome saw. it seems to handle what ever I can throw at it.Only thing not to thrilled about is it is little heavy. Happy I don't have to lug around too much. I foung the laser easy to adjust ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2006-10-24 Summary: Good quality saw ... I bought this saw several months ago and love it. The base is true and accurate. The lazer works ok however it doesn't show up in any sunlight. Makita should definately beef up the intensity on it. It weighs a ton, but so does every other 12" saw on the market. The glides are still smooth after some pretty extensive use so far. It balances well on my dewalt miter saw stand. ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2003-09-02 Summary: Solid machine ... Well built and simple to use like all Makitas. Pretty lightweight too compared to their older models. My only complaint is with the very lightweight kerf boards (strips of plastic under the blade). If you get careless and push the saw down too fast, the blade catches and blows the kerf boards to smithereens. Like a lot of these saws, you really need three hands to change the blade. There's a cover that keeps trying to spring back into place while you're removing/replacing the blade bolt. It draws 15A, so make sure ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2003-04-07 Summary: The BEST miter saw of ANY type ... I'll tell you right now, I've tried ALL the other saws on the market: miter, compound miter and sliding compound miter in all sizes, and this saw is the best. I think the sliding saws are over priced and more-apt to run out of alignment and bog down in heavy materials. They also require dedicated work stations that make them as unwieldy as the radial arm saw you are probably trying to replace. The 10" compound miter saws, while more affordable, lack the cutting capacity and, frankly, are not getting the design and ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2002-11-13 Summary: well designed & constructed miter saw ... I have owned the original LS1220 for several years and have been pleased with the performance. I see Makita has upgraded the blade from a 24 tooth to a 70 tooth blade for smoother cutting. I have been waiting for the orginal Makita blade to wear enough to rationalize getting a nicer blade. My only quibbles so far concern the plastic retractable blade sheath which is flimsy compared to the rest of the saw, and the sawdust collection bag which I quickly replaced with a home made adaptor for my Fein vacuum. ...more
